Kansas City Ribs

These ribs are so yummy!  I found them in a grilling magazine last summer and this is pretty much the only ones i make.  Even in the winter i broil them instead of BBQ!  They are a bit of work though.  Next week i will try to share with you my new recipe for crock pot ribs.  They are so so good and so so easy.  I might be making them more often!

4-5 lbs beef back ribs- I think i use pork?  I don’t know?  Whatever the pack is at Costco.  I think beef??

1T brown sugar

1T paprika

1tsp garlic powder

1tsp celery salt

1/2tsp dry mustard

1/2tsp ground black pepper

1/4tsp cayenne pepper- we are whimps so i use less- most of the time none.


1 med onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic

1T butter

1c ketchup

1/4c molasses

1/4c cider vinegar

1/4c water

2T brown sugar

1T chili powder

1T yellow mustard

1T worcestershire

1/2tsp salt

1.  Preheat oven to 350*.  Place ribs in a shallow roasting pan.  For rub, in a small bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, celery salt, dry mustard, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.  Generously sprinkle rub over both sides of ribs; rub in with your fingers.  Cover pan with foil.

2.  Bake ribs for 2 to 2 1/2 hours or until very tender.  Drain off the fat.

3.  For sauce, in a medium saucepan, cook onion and garlic in hot butter over medium heat for 5 minutes or until tender.  Stir in ketchup, molasses, vinegar, the water, brown sugar, chili powder, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and salt.  Bring to a boiling.  Reduce heat and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes.

4.  Grill, covered, for 10 minutes or until ribs are browned, turning once and brushing occasionally with sauce.
